Saturday, March 14, 2026

Artificial Intelligence (AI) may sound like science fiction, but it is already an integral – and often invisible
– part of our daily routines.

Join Dr. Oscar Ruelas for an insightful session that demystifies modern AI by exploring the sophisticated
applications that we encounter every day. This presentation will move beyond abstract concepts to
focus on practical examples, revealing how AI powers everything from the personalized
recommendations you see online and the navigation systems you use in your car, to crucial tools in
various sectors.

Presenter: Dr. Oscar Ruelas, a professor in the Faculty of Management at Vancouver Island
University, started his career working in global banking on a team managing HSBC’s top Global clients.
He later oversaw the LATAM-Asia Pacific markets division for an AI/ technology company in Vancouver.
Oscar has built and managed a global cross-functional staff of over 100 global resources and generated
over 20B monthly digital views.
