Welcome to Senior Living's TV series "Senior Living On Location"
B.C.’s favourite seniors lifestyle magazine, Senior Living Magazine, comes to life through an exciting television series called Senior Living On Location.
Senior Living On Location focuses on the inspiring, informative and entertaining adventure filled stories of seniors from Vancouver Island, Vancouver and the Lower Mainland communities.
Senior Living On Location is dedicated to changing the definition and stereotypes around aging, retirement and what it means to become a senior. The program is narrated by well know voiceover artist and radio broadcaster Barry Bowman, who brings a warm, familiar sound and creative perspective to each story segment.
“Senior Living On Location is unique because it profiles both ordinary and extra-ordinary seniors living life to it’s fullest, embarking on a wide variety of spectacular adventures,” said Barbara Risto, producer and publisher of Senior Living. “Up until now, television at the community, provincial and even national level has failed to provide seniors with quality programs that showcase the amazing things people in their 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and even their 90’s are doing.”
“Most programs targeted towards seniors focus on managing ailments and improving health and are often more about marketing products related to aging than anything else” said Risto. “The main focus of Senior Living On Location is celebrating the wide variety of people and the diverse range of active lifestyles that make up the ever growing senior populations in our local communities. ”
Senior Living On Location profiles everything from well known seniors such as artist Robert Bateman, photographer Ted Grant, paralympian Daniel Westley, and actor Bill Reiter; to stories about senior hobbyists, athletes, dancers, writers, car racers, magicians, artists, crafters, buskers, musicians, actors, divers, and entrepreneurs. Themes such as volunteerism, travel, co-housing and seniors wellness are also included. Stories were filmed in Victoria, Cobble Hill, Duncan, Cowichan Valley, Nanaimo, Parksville, Saltspring Island, Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Abbotsford, New Westminster, Surrey, Delta and Tsawwassen.
“Each episode of Senior Living On Location is comprised of three to five segments, each profiling a different senior or group of seniors. Each segment takes us briefly into the lives of the seniors involved, where it is their voice, their personal stories that are being shared,” said Risto.
