PLAN FOR YOUR FUTURE (MEMORIES) NOW: TIPS IN MEMORY LOSS PREVENTION
By Derek Gillette
During the course of my career in senior housing, I have witnessed countless spouses spending their days caring for loved ones; loved ones who, tragically, can no longer remember that they once shared a life together with this dedicated spouse.
The cause of this tragedy is, of course, the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. The positive news is that the effects of Alzheimer’s can be delayed if the proper prevention techniques are taken early and often enough.

FIRST GARAGE SALE: Getting rid of 42 years of stuff and memories
By Marie Bruce
I am preparing for a garage sale. People do it all the time and seem to enjoy it but this is my first one ever and I had no idea what it entails.
I am living alone now since George died very suddenly last year. For the past few weeks, I have been exploring the idea of moving to a smaller and more manageable living space and the realization has set in that all this "stuff" cannot come with me. George and I were married for 42 years and now I have 42 years of possessions in every nook and cranny of this house. And as is the case with most parents, not only do I have to deal with all of my own belongings, I also have to deal with my children's stored treasures they once thought to keep but now abandoned by the box-load.
The idea of a garage sale took hold after I brought 5 boxes of “stuff” to the church rummage sale, donated two more boxes to a friend’s choir sale and weeks of trips to the book bin with bags of books. After all that effort, I couldn't see much of a dent.
