Volunteer training sessions for Senior Mentoring Program
South Vancouver Island
Tue. July 13th, 2010 – Thu. July 22nd, 2010 10:00am - 12:00pm
Come and take the training to become a Senior Mentor in your community. You will be able to help seniors to find information they require, understand and fill out forms with them, and make referrals to those with more pertinent information. Silver Threads has attained a New Horizons Grant to make these services available to those seniors in the community who require such assistance to help them remain independent in their community.
Training sessions will take place July 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd from 10 am until noon. You will be provided with a binder with much information as well as speakers from community and government services. A celebratory launch of the program will take place in September. This gives you the summer to assimilate the information.
For time committment, it will be on an 'on call' basis. You might not be called upon for a few months, and then be required for 1-3 days in a row. We are hoping to have enough volunteers trained so the work will be distributed.
If you would like to make such a committment to our seniors, please get in touch.
