What makes Vancouver Islanders unique?
This is the question that drives the work of the Seeds and Salt Theatre Company. Our mandate is to uncover the forgotten stories of our past that have helped shape Vancouver Island today. In order to understand who we are, we need to know where we've come from.
Comprised of short vignettes that are fast paced and entertaining, this is great entertainment for the entire family. The stories are retold in a dramatic and physical style so the audience interacts with the character's heroic deeds; intrigue, love, and humour. We've chosen them not just for their locations but for the emotions they evoke. It's not just events that constitute drama, it's the people involved, the men and women who were swept up by their passions, the circumstances and the small victories that meant so much
Our hope is that audiences will come away with a knowledge and appreciation of Vancouver Island they didn't previously have. This is an opportunity to step back and look at our history in a new and exciting way, a chance to celebrate the forgotten, the humorous, the tragic and the sometimes not so heroic events of our past and the men and women, like ourselves, who made them happen.
Many people today appreciate the scenery and peaceful lifestyle that can be found on Vancouver Island but it's time to remind ourselves of those people that created
all we have to enjoy.
"This is our history, we need to cherish it".
Performed in Salt Spring and Vancouver Island Communities from July 1-24, 2010.
