Hal Leonard's Book of 2005 credits Monty as one of the top five pianists of all time. We agree and are pleased to bring him back to Victoria for our local jazz community to enjoy. You will be amazed!
In a career spanning five decades, Monty Alexander had built a reputation exploring and bridging the worlds of American Jazz, Broadway, popular song and the music of his native Jamaica, finding in each a sincere, joyful spirit of musical expression.
He has performed and recorded with some or our greatest artists in the entertainment world: Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Quincy Jones, Bobby McFerrin and Emily Remler, among others.
As a young man, Monty was profoundly inspired by concert experiences with Louis Armstrong and Nat "King" Cole.
In the 60's, Monty played with Milt Jackson, Ray Brown, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Count Bassie and Miles Davis.
Monty's album, "The Good Life" is a collection of songs written and popularized by his favouriet artist and good friend Tony Bennett.
His latest album, "Calypso Blues" is a tribute to his hero, Nat "King" Cole.
Our special guest is, Louise Rose - Victoria's Jazz Diva.
