Galiano Ensemble Performs a Celebration of English Music
South Vancouver Island
Wed. May 30th, 2012 – Wed. May 29th, 2013 8:00pm - 10:00pm
In their final performance of the 2012-13 season, the Galiano Ensemble of Victoria is offering an evening to recognize the works of several English composers. The program includes Gustav Holst’s St. Paul Suite, Gerald Finzi’s Romance, Opus 11, John Ireland’s Concertino Pastorale, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus, and Haydn Wood’s Fantasy-Concerto.
English compositions are often well suited to strings. This music may even be said to bring out a “singing quality” in the instruments which reflects the precision, warmth and beauty for which English choirs are renowned. Among these pieces, listeners may know some of the pieces but will likely find other works that are seldom heard. Conductor Yariv Aloni and the orchestra will bring the richness of these compositions to Victoria in their season-ending concert, providing a great opportunity to hear some wonderful classical music.
Tickets are $33 ($30 for seniors). Advance tickets are available at Ivy’s Books and Munro’s Books or by calling 250-704-2580. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. http://www.galiano.ca/
