7th Annnual Poetry Gabriola Festival
Nanaimo & North Vancouver Island
Thu. November 11th, 2010 – Sun. November 14th, 2010
Nov 11 & 12 7:30pm
Nov 13 & 14 Various Events 10:00am-9:30pm
This year all events will be held at the elegant Dragon's Lodge, at the south end of Gabriola. We find this beautiful oceanfront location hugely inspiring, and think our fans will too.
To get the show rolling, we are celebrating Opening Night with the poetry of folk music. Canada Sings: Islanders Sing Songs of The Land is a rare concert by Pender Island luminary Mae Moore, and Gabriola's Bob Bossin.
The festival weekend we will showcase the results of a two-year project called Canada Speaks: New Literary Performance Works by 12 Canadian Artists. Audiences will have the opportunity to see 12 of Canada's top literary performers in action as they premiere brand new pieces commissioned by Poetry Gabriola.
From a project with a national profile to some of the smallest spaces on the island, Knock-Knock, Who's There? is a new, free, multi-artist, site-specific installation of teeny, tiny performances that will occur in the 11 cabins scattered around the grounds of the Dragon's Lodge. Quite possibly the most complex knock-knock joke ever, this installation of poets, musicians, and performance artists proves over and over that good things come in tiny little cabin-shaped packages.
The festival also features readings, workshops, school shows, discussions, a Performance Art Salon, and the Mingle! Wine Bar. For a full schedule and complete artist information go to www.poetrygabriola.com.
