There was a time not so long ago when Americans, regardless of their political stripes, rallied round their president. Once elected, the man who won the White House was no longer viewed as a republican or democrat, but the President of the United States. The oath of office was taken, the wagons were circled around the country’s borders and it was America versus the rest of the world with the president of all the people at the helm.
Suddenly President Barack Obama, with the potential to become an exceptional president has become the glaring exception to that unwritten, patriotic rule.
Four days before President Obama’s inauguration, before he officially took charge of the American government, Rush Limbaugh boasted publicly that he hoped the president would fail. Of course, when the president fails the country flounders. Wishing harm upon your country in order to further your own narrow political views is selfish, sinister and a tad treasonous as well.
Subsequently, during his State of the Union address, which is pretty much a pep rally for America, an unknown congressional representative from South Carolina, later identified as Joe Wilson, stopped the show when he called the President of the United States a liar. The president showed great restraint in ignoring this unprecedented insult and carried on with his speech. Speaker Nancy Pelosi was so stunned by the slur, she forgot to jump to her feet while clapping wildly, 30 or 40 times after that.
Last spring, President Obama took his wife Michelle to see a play in New York City and republicans attacked him over the cost of security for the excursion. The president can’t take his wife out to dinner and a show without being scrutinized by the political opposition? As history has proven, a president in a theatre without adequate security is a tragically bad idea.
Remember: “Apart from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?”
At some point, the treatment of President Obama went from offensive to ugly and then to downright dangerous.
The health-care debate, which looked more like extreme fighting in a mud pit than a national dialogue, revealed a very vulgar side of America. President Obama’s face appeared on protest signs white-faced and blood-mouthed in a satanic clown image. In other tasteless portrayals, people who disagreed with his position distorted his face to look like Hitler complete with mustache and swastika.
Odd, that burning the flag makes Americans crazy, but depicting the president as a clown and a maniacal fascist is accepted as part of the new rude America.
Maligning the image of the leader of the free world is one thing, putting the president’s life in peril is quite another. More than once, men with guns were videotaped at the health-care rallies where the president spoke. Again, history shows that letting men with guns get within range of a president has not served America well in the past.
And still the “birthers” are out there claiming Barack Obama was not born in the United States, although public documentation proves otherwise. Hawaii is definitely part of the United States, but the Panama Canal Zone where his electoral opponent Senator John McCain was born? Nobody’s sure.
Last month, a 44-year-old woman in Buffalo was quite taken by President Obama when she met him in a chicken wing restaurant called Duff’s. Did she say something about a pleasure and an honour to meet the man or utter encouraging words for the difficult job he is doing? No. Quote: “You’re a hottie with a smokin’ little body.”
Lady, that was the President of the United States you were addressing, not one of the Jonas Brothers! He’s your president for goodness sakes, not the guy driving the Zamboni at “Monster Trucks On Ice.” Maybe next it’ll be, “Take Your President To A Topless Bar Day.”
In President Barack Obama, Americans have a charismatic leader with a good and honest heart. Unlike his predecessor, he’s a very intelligent leader. And unlike that president’s predecessor, he’s a highly moral man.
In President Obama, Americans have the real deal, the whole package and a leader that citizens of almost every country around the world look to with great envy. Given the opportunity, Canadians would trade our leader, hell, most of our leaders for Obama in a heartbeat.
What America has in Obama is a head of state with vitality and insight and youth. Think about it, Barack Obama is a young Nelson Mandela. Mandela was the face of change and charity for all of Africa but he was too old to make it happen. The great things Obama might do for America and the world could go on for decades after he’s out of office.
America, you know not what you have.
The man is being challenged unfairly, characterized with vulgarity and treated with the kind of deep disrespect to which no previous president was subjected. It’s like the day after electing the first black man to be president, thereby electrifying the world with hope and joy, Americans sobered up and decided the bad old days were better.
President Obama may fail but it will not be a Richard Nixon default fraught with larceny and lies. President Obama, given a fair chance, will surely succeed but his triumph will never come with a Bill Clinton caveat – “if only he’d got control of that zipper.”
Please. Give the man a fair, fighting chance. This incivility toward the leader who won over Americans and gave hope to billions of people around the world that their lives could be enhanced by his example, just naturally has to stop.
Believe me, when Americans drive by the White House and see a sign on the lawn that reads: “No shirt. No shoes. No service,” they’ll realize this new national rudeness has gone way, way too far.

@ Linda Willaims- Fox News is the only media outlet that has any journalistic intergrity. The rest of our 'news outlets' merely advance liberal agendas.
@ Sammpro- Yup, STILL has NOTHING to do with race or history. Your post was nonsen sical. It is about idiology, policy and facts.
Also, looks like the Supreme Court has finally bought a clue and is hearing the case of obamas eleigibility to be POTUS. He is a shyster, fraud, marxist and puppet of soros.

That said it is President Bush that started our slip sliding economy that our current president has exacerbated the bad economy and high unemployment. It is also Mr. Bush that started a war under false pretensions that has cost our country lives and and trillions of dollars.
Although he denies ever knowing about outing Valerie Plame and neither did Karl Roves you would have to be an idiot to believe that neither of them knew.
If this had happened during President Clintons the Republican Congress would probably have him up for treason which is what I believe President Bush should been charged with.
As a Veteran I resent any derogatory comments about any president. Naturally we have the right to free speech but do not make so disrespectful and so nasty as to make our enemy's think we are weak.
SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!!!

I respect your opinion, but I find a lot of ignorance in your post.
1. Muslim protocol includes bowing to the Saudi king??? Gimme a break! Muslims only bow to God just like Christians and Jewish people do. Get your facts straight please. Outside of Saudi, I don't think a lot of people know who that King is.
2. Two guys in a video store thinking Obama is a Muslim doesn't make him one. But to Mathieu's point, (although it's not the case), but even if he were a Muslim, so what?
3. About Obama downplaying the fact that America is a Christian country: Not sure about downplaying, but America is NOT a Christian country. It is true that the vast majority of the population is Christian, but the nation itself has no religion. Read the Articles of Confederation, read some history, The Establishment Clause clearly states that there is no National Religion in America and the State cannot define one. Religion and State remain separate.
4. Muslims do not kill Muslims? Really?? Man, you don't read much news do you? Without even looking at statistics, I can safely surmise that more Muslims have been killed by Muslims than any other religion based group. Terrorists have no religion, it's all about politics - but that's another story. So when you say that Obama wants those people tried in civil courts so that HE wouldn't have to sign their death warrants because he cannot kill a fellow Muslim, that makes absolutely no sense at all.
By the way, do you even realize that in the 9/11 attacks a lot of Muslims died too? Right there you're wrong. Furthermore, I don't think you might know but the army has a lot of Muslims serving the country and dying for it, just like every other soldier.
Peace out!

1. Rush Limbaugh was very clear about his wish that Obama would fail: he wanted him to fail in his liberal agenda. Just as a liberal would want a conservative President to fail in his conservative agenda. This does not translate to "I want the COUNTRY to fail". Limbaugh believes that Obama's agenda is damaging to the country, and he has a right to his opinion.
2. Yes, Americans are very divided over accepting Obama as "our" President. But this is also the first time that a President, supposedly of the entire United States and all political parties, has referred to roughly half of the population as "The Enemy" in speeches. When he opens dialogue in this manner, it should be expected that those whom he is referring to as "The Enemy" (Republicans) will vocally reject his leadership. He is not the innocent victim in this matter, so the author is being slightly disingenuous.

As a youth, I was raised in the church and attended Catholic school, and I believed in what I was being taught.
But, those self proclaimed Christian who still hold on to the old prejudices of the past are making mockery of the death of Christ and His sacrifice, a Dream Deferred.

Obama,
It is clear that a large number of America are not pleased with either Obama or Hilary. Since there hasn't been an assassination in a long time. The method today is to discredit the individual. Since we have not been attack and the current policy has kept us safe at home. I feel, that within 90 days, that we will be attacked in America. So they can say, that the democrats were weak on defense with no experience.......
To me, the "Good Old Boys" set the brother up 6 years ago. They knew Hillary was running and they have shown they Don't want her.
The Obama campaign reminds me of a movie made back in '68, "Wild in the Streets". An old politician hires a rock star to play at one of his rallies to draw young voters. It back fires and the rock star realizes the potential of his influence and runs for office and wins. The Good Old Boys, the hippies and rockers all know this movie.
Check it out! The theme: The more things change, the more things remain the same.

Found your comments fascinating. I guess I have to ask... I don't believe he is, but what if the President WAS Muslim? So what?
Whether he is our isn't, maybe he can use his lineage to politically to heal some of the rifts that have occurred between the Christian and Arab worlds.
Extreme Christianity AND extreme Muslim AND extreme Islam are frightening. Such extremes usually lead to imbalance and evil acts perpetrated on the "unbelievers". It is a good thing Church (any religion) and State must remain seperate in our countries, wouldn't you agree? I also find it fascinating everyone who is religious and commenting feels "God is on their side". I wonder how God became so small - everyone's personal talisman?

Sheppard Smith, Fox News.
"If you check President Obama's last trip over-seas, his wife left just
after their visit to France . She has yet to accompany him to any Arab
country. Think about it. Why is Michelle returning to the states when
'official' trips to foreign countries generally include the First Lady."
Here's one thought on the matter.
While in a Blockbuster renting videos I came across a video called "Obama".
There were two men standing next to me and we talked about President
Obama. These guys were Arabs, so I asked them why they thought Michele
Obama headed home following the President's recent visit to France instead
of traveling on to Saudi Arabia and Turkey with her husband. They told me
she could not go to Saudi Arabia , Turkey or Iraq . I said "Why not,(?) Laura
Bush went to Saudi Arabia , Turkey and Dubai ." They said that Obama is a
Muslim and therefore he is not allowed to bring his wife into countries that
adhere to Sharia Law.
Two points of interest here:
1) I thought it interesting that two American Arabs at Blockbuster believe
that our President is a Muslim, who follows a strict Islamic creed.
2) They also said that's the reason he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia. It
was a signal to the Muslim world, acknowledging his religion.
For further consideration, here is a response from Dr. Jim Murk, a Middle
Eastern Scholar and expert on Islam. This is his explanation of what the
Arab American's were saying.
"An orthodox Muslim man would never take his wife on a politically oriented
trip to any nation which practices Sharia law, particularly Saudi Arabia
where the Wahhabi sect is dominant. This is true and it is why Obama left
Michelle in Europe . She will stay home when he visits Arab countries. He
knows Muslim protocol; this includes, bowing to the Saudi King. Obama is
regarded as a Muslim in the Arab world, because he was born to a Muslim
father; he acknowledged his Muslim faith with George Stephanopoulus. Note
that he downplays his involvement with Christianity, by not publicly joining
a Christian church in D.C. And occasionally attending the chapel for
services at Camp David . He also played down the fact that America is a
Christian country and said, unbelievably, that it was one of the largest
Muslim nations in the world, which is nonsense. He has publicly taken the
side of the Palestinians in the conflict with Israel and he ignored the
National Day of Prayer, something no other President has ever done. He is
bad news! He conceals his true faith to the detriment of the American
people." --- Jim Murk, Doctor of Philosophy in Middle Eastern Culture &
Religion.
ACTIONS speak louder than words. Another interesting item regarding Sharia
Law. Why has Barack Hussein Obama insisted that the U.S. Attorney General
hold the trials of the 911 Muslim Terrorists in Civilian Courts as Common
Criminals instead of as Terrorists who attacked the United States of
America ? If the Muslim Terrorists are tried in Military Tribunals,
convicted and sentenced to death, by LAW, Barack Hussein Obama, as President
of the United States , would be required to sign their Death Warrants. He
would not be required to sign the death warrants if they are sentenced to
death by a Civilian Court . Recently, Muslim Jihadist, Army Major Hassan
slaughtered non-Muslim, soldiers at Ft. Hood , Texas rather than go to
Afghanistan and be a part of anything that could lead to the deaths of
fellow Muslims. He stated that Muslims 'could not and should not kill
fellow Muslims.' Is the motive for Barack Hussein Obama's insistence on
civilian trials, to make sure he doesn't have to sign the death warrants for
the Muslim Terrorists? Why would he, as President of the United States , not
sign the death warrants for Muslim Terrorists who attacked the United States
and murdered over 3,000 U. S. Citizens on 9/11? Could it be that he is
FORBIDDEN by his RELIGION to authorize the execution of Muslims?
Think about that! Open your eyes, ears and mind to who the President is,
how he behaves and what he is doing.
